My work explores the possibilities of how error can modify our perception of reality and how we approach it. My work expresses my point of view on life, and reality, of which I’d like to show the “complexity”. To better explain myself, I have to go back to when I made my first pieces. After school, I worked as an illustrator for newspapers, and at a cartoon studio where I drew the backgrounds through which the various characters moved. While doing this work, I discarded lots of stuff: color proofs, drawings that went wrong, etc. Instead of throwing these failures away, I set them aside, and later used them to compose abstract collages. I realized these little pieces excited me much, much more than the actual work I was doing, and knew without a doubt that that’s what I wanted to do.

I identified with those scraps of paper, felt there was a likeness between us. An awareness was born, and I began to think about why I was so attracted to things that result from mistakes. After many years of working on them, with them, I’m still doing it.

I can’t explain it, but paradoxically I don’t try to create “beautiful” pieces. My main intention is to show my idea of the world. I’d like to go against arrogance, especially the arrogance of evidence. Looking at one of my paintings, I hope one perceives an attempt to give value to neglected things, unseen things, marginal things, mistakes. Certainly I deal with the aesthetic aspects of a painting, because in the end the painting (however banal this may be) has to please me. But the aesthetic design must pass through the filter of the conceptual plan.
My creative course is the story of an unresolved relationship (it’ll probably never be resolved) between me and my mistakes. I leave to my works the task of sharing this position with others.
